Why Is My Upload Faster Than Download

  • Why is my upload speed 50x faster than my download speed I upgraded my internet to internet 50 (from internet 24). The tech came and installed fiber and i tested my speed on my phone, laptop, and television and i get speeds of 1-5mbps download and 50-59mbps upload. I get 50mbps download with my xbox one on ethernet and wifi but when i connect.
  • Feb 19, 2012  Yevgeniy: I ran into your blog post 'Got slow download but fast upload speeds over wireless? Here's a fix.' I have some info you may find useful. This happened to me too when I moved to Comcast - but I had DSL running in parallel. The Comcast traffic had this problem but the DSL did not. Also, it affected my Linksys router when it had stock.

Upload speeds are generally slower than download speeds becauseof the fact that most internet connected equipment is asymmetric.Asymmetric means that any one packet of data can either go in, orout, but not both ways at the same time.

Since most internet users are receiving more data than sending, the internet connected equipment has shifted the higher majority ofthe signals to go toward downloading.

Upload speeds are generally slower than download speeds because of the fact that most internet connected equipment is asymmetric. Asymmetric means that any one packet of data can either go in,.

If an internet provider allows your connection to be 5Mbdownload and 1Mb upload, this same connection is capable ofhandling 3Mb upload and 3 Mb download. But this would then slowdown the most important part of the internet, the receiving anddownloading of requested data.

So I'm having this issue with the really slow download speed and very fast download speed over cable and wifi. The network topology is the following:

Provider router and FO media converter (PON-TECH PT-47RW) in bridge mode =>Asus AC-RT66U router (connected to lan 1 from provider router).

The speed tests I have done are the following:

laptop connected over cable to provider router - (73.44 Mbps download / 72.83 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983140310

laptop connected over cable to my asus router - (9.36 Mbps download / 64.59 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983164758

laptop connected over wifi to my asus router - (13.19 Mbps download / 42.59 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983158870

I have already tried other suggestions from various forums like turning off the firewall or WMM but that didn't help.I have also ran the tests using an old tplink TL-WR940N router and here's what I got:

Ps4 takes long to download game updates for windows 7. Edit- Also if it's the first day or two a patch is released for a game the servers can be slow to get downloads going, remember that it's not just you trying to download a patch for a new game but thousands of other players and not all of them are using the best connection. I think it's just how they compress the files. For complete and detailed rule descriptions,. I know that some games lump all the patch data into one file so that whenever you download an update it just adds a bit more to the file which is why it may say it's starting the download and then jump to 75% or more, it's just downloading the last bit of patch data, not all the updates you already have.

laptop connected over wifi to my tp link - (21.81 Mbps download / 10.76 Mbps uplpoad) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983146621

laptop connected over cable to my tp link - (12.51 Mbps download / 10.65 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983153018

The download speed over wifi is slighly faster but on cable is the same..

What could the problem be?

Summary
cable provider router - 73.44 Mbps download / 72.83
cable asus router - 9.36 Mbps download / 64.59 Mbps upload
wifi asus router - 13.19 Mbps download / 42.59 Mbps upload
cable tp-link router - 21.81 Mbps download / 10.76 Mbps
wifi tp-link router - 12.51 Mbps download / 10.65 Mbps

In your ASUS Router Web Interface, under the Traffic Manager side menu item, is QoS enabled? if so, there are probably upload and download bandwidth fields. This could be the cause of your un-even throughput. Just turn off QoS on your ASUS router and run your test again. This is just an assumption because I don't have your router configuration file in front of me.

Download Speed Slower Than Upload

After trying all suggested things and setups, I asked the provider to give me the WIFI password for their device and now I am using their device's wireless network and plugged out my ASUS router.
I concluded that the router-to-router connection isn't working very well or there is some sort of limitation in their device on using another router connected the PON-TECH one.
