Need for Speed: High Stakes full game is a single and multiplayer racing video game, developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts. It is the fourth major installment in the Need for Speed series. High Stakes is the first installment brought with a career mode and a damage model. It was released in 1999 for PS and in 2000 for Microsoft Windows.
Gameplay / walkthrough:
The player steers along the roads in the fictitious world of Need for Speed: High Stakes. The game has all as in its predecessor, Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, as well as a new tournament (High Stakes), and two new pursuit modes (Getaway and Time Trap). Unlike its last version, the physics have been much improved, which include for the first time in the series a damage modeling, affecting both the appearance and performance of a chosen vehicle.
Career mode is a tournament wherein the player finishes the races for achieving the trophies to unlock the bonus cars and tracks. If the players ends up winning, he is worthy of a monetary reward that enables him to purchase vehicles, upgrade performance, etc. The PC version has more tournaments in Career and the PS version divides the Career into two modes, Tournament, and Special Event, with the second being optional.
In High Stakes mode, if the player wins, he will acquire the loser’s car. In the PC version, High Stakes races are only in Career mode, whereas in the PS version, it is a separate two-player mode. In both versions, the player bets his car against an opponent with a car of similar performance. The player must possess more than one car to partake in a High Stakes race.

Runs well on my Windows XP system, though the graphics is not as good as it was when I played it 15 years back with a graphics card. Maybe they'll have emulators for old graphics cards some day. :) Haven't found away to run it on my Windows 10 laptop, though.
What I really like about this game is the set of features that I could not find in much later games (e.g., Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010),) such as replay and mirrored tracks. Despite the better graphics in modern games, I prefer this one because of its beautiful locations and pure gameplay. The newer games just do not feel so 'nice.'

indeed it happened to me running on Win 10 32 the menú and the way i start the game yeah it runs but after any mode you play arcade, knockout , career you finish your one race and the game gets you out to win again!!! i still ask why NFS hs has so many issues and NFS 3 HP i can run it perfect i mean its older and with less issues Unfair!!! :( cause so love this game alot more tHan 3!!

It works on win 2000 but there is a problem when i enable directx it doesn t save single player arcade when i left the game.

Tested it on Win 10 32 bit with patched installer:
German doesn't work, because the application can't load german speak files of the cops. The program breaks down in that case.
So I tried again in English.. I can maybe drive one race and in the main menu I get always an exception and the program breaks down. This is annoying :-(

It works, on Windows 2000 but there is a problem. Can you tell me how to make cars look better. I don't know how to remove those nasty black windows on cars.
